Mega Driving Ranges

Golfing In The Concrete Jungle

Hi everybody! Wherever golfers are in the world a Driving Range is never far away. And most of us can not resist a visit to hit a bucket of balls. My latest blog looks at 3 of the biggest, each with its own individual feature, read on and enjoy...
Big Business

Not only are Driving Ranges an important tool for golfers in developing their skills, but they are also a multi-million dollar industry. According to the International Golf Practice Facilities Association, American golfers spend over $2 billion per year on range balls! This popularity has led Driving Range operators to strive to make the most out of their available space and resources to create the best possible practice experience for their customers.

Kasai Rinkai Koen Driving Range, Tokyo, Japan
This state of the art “Golfodrome” has over 300 bays and is fully automated. The landing area of the Range is cleverly designed so that the balls run into channels, then fed through pipes under the surface and back to the hitting bays automatically! Even the greens used for target practice are cleared of balls via a robotic arm every ten minutes.

Chelsea Piers Driving Range, Manhattan, New York City
Overlooking the Hudson River, this Driving Range contains four levels of heated hitting bays and an automatic ball-tee-up system. The facility also has an indoor putting/chipping green area and bunker. The coolest feature here is the “Pitch & Putt course designed on the Astro-Turf of the range itself where competitions are held on a regular basis both day and night.

Hanoi Club Driving Range, West Lake, Hanoi, Vietnam
Probably the only time golfer will enjoy hitting balls in a water hazard! This public Driving Range sits on the edge of West lake, Hanoi, and is part of the Hanoi Club Hotel. The range has over 100 bays and is floodlit. Golfers literally hit balls into the lake, however, the balls do not sink to the bottom but float on the surface! The ball are retrieved every evening using a boat and a huge net
